IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR JUDGES OF THE ROTTWEILER
While dogs must be judged in accordance with the Kennel Club Breed Standards the Committee of the Rottweiler Club have prepared extended guidelines to describe the tail more fully as given in the breed standard of the country of origin.
The Committee feel that with regard to the tail carriage the German interpretation should be adopted, which took some years to develop in consultation with Veterinary specialists. The Committee would urge all breed and non-breed judges to note that whilst a Rottweiler tail may be carried in a half-moon or sabre fashion, it should NOT curl right over the dog’s back in a double curl, nor should it touch the back or be carried to one side of the dog’s back. The base of the tail should NOT come away from the spine at a vertical angle. Also kinks along the tail should be penalised as they are a genetic defect.
The Committee will be seeking a formal amendment to the Kennel Club Breed Standard.
